Experience Camp Compassion

Camp Compassion

Camp Compassion is an annual one day camp for children and teens, ages 6-15, that have experienced the death of a sibling, parent, grandparent, or other close relative in the past 1 to 2 years.

Objectives

  • Provide a safe, fun and free day camp experience for children and teens that have had a significant loss in their life
  • Expand the child or teen's understanding of death
  • Give support to the participants in where they are in the grief experience
  • Provide children and teens with normalization of their grief experience
  • Provide an opportunity for participants to share memories of their loved ones
  • The vision of Camp Compassion came about after learning that an experience is needed in helping children and teens deal more effectively with grief
The staff of Peachtree Hospice contacted several agencies across the country that sponsor and operate such a camp as Camp Compassion. The agencies have been very supportive in helping to guide and provide information in developing this camp. There will be age-graded activities that include sessions on helping the child/teen deal with grief, as well as many fun activities.
